Vocal fold cysts

Vocal cord cysts

Vocal cord cysts are usually unilateral, white-yellowish fluid-filled protrusions on the vocal cord that can lead to hoarseness.

Occurrence:

They can occur at various locations in the larynx. When a cyst is located on the vocal cords, it leads to hoarseness.

They are typically unilateral on the vocal cord, very rarely bilateral.

Etiology and Pathogenesis:

Vocal cord cysts can be retention cysts or epidermoid cysts.

Retention cysts occur when mucus-producing cells close off and cannot release the mucus. They are benign changes that can occur in various locations in the larynx. When the cyst is located on the vocal cords, it leads to hoarseness.

Treatment:

Unfortunately, voice therapy is not effective in treating vocal cord cysts.

Surgical removal with maximum preservation of the vocal cord edge is the treatment of choice. Even with careful and correct surgery, the cyst may recur.

Incision of the cyst under local anesthesia is possible and often leads to rapid improvement in the voice, but recurrence can be expected in this case.

It is important to attempt complete removal of the cyst without damaging the essential functional structures of the vocal cords.

Yes, I would agree with the title without a doubt. I felt very well taken care of here. From the diagnosis to the therapy with the procedure and the follow-up care, everything was explained with great competence and always in a very friendly manner... and I never felt rushed during the treatment or any conversations. In short, it was a stroke of luck in terms of professionalism, social interaction, and craftsmanship.
