Sulcus vocalis

also known as vocal cord sulcus or vocal cord groove

A Sulcus vocalis is a longitudinal "groove" along the axis of the vocal cord, which leads to a restriction of the vibratory motion of the vocal cord edge.

The exact cause is not completely understood. In many cases, it appears to be a congenital anomaly. A familial clustering of cases is particularly observed in Eastern countries.

Treatment:

The treatment is not always straightforward. Vocal cord augmentation can help to a certain extent. However, we are currently in the process of developing a new therapeutic strategy.
